Marissa’s House in Kireka, Bulenga, Uganda came about as a “gift” of an already built Church Home from an anonymous donor connected to ICM, our original Ethiopia partner. The building was built to be the headquarters of the FourSquare Church of Uganda and home to Hope for New Life Church Marissa’s House was completed and dedicated in September 2012.
The downstairs portion of the building is a church and community gathering area and the upstairs houses 25 precious children who were once orphans along with 2 widows who act as house mothers. The children range in age from 4 to approximately 15. They are all able to attend school as well as have a roof over their heads, at least 2 meals per day, clothing, school uniforms and supplies and their very own bed.
In 2014, we were able to assist in the addition of an indoor kitchen and volunteer housing. Since the completion of the kitchen, the Pastor’s wife has been teaching local villagers how to bake and how to decorate cakes in order to given them a way to earn a living.
In 2013 we had a fundraiser to raise the $10,000 needed to drill a fresh water well on the property. Since then as many as 100 people from the village and surrounding area come to get water every day.
After an extensive hydrological survey, the actual drilling of the borehole began. It brough fresh, clean water in abundance to what previously was an area where water had to be bought and trucked in.
