THE GOAT PROJECT

THE GOAT PROJECT

In late 2019, our Pastor in Ethiopia, Samson, became increasingly aware that most ministries and NGO’s were not focusing on rural villages. Many, many people live in these small, remote villages outside of the major cities. Since these villages are communal and people take care of one another, the responsibility for caring for the large number of orphans and needy children falls upon these villagers. This amazing and wonderful way of life offers the children “parental” figures as they grow up, however, it adds to the crushing poverty that these villagers and children already live in. We started our Goat Project with the aim to support these children WHERE THEY LIVE — in their community — without having to take them out of their “home” village, to an orphanage.

Goats are a great way for a child to make an income and they provide them with a sense of ownership and personal pride. The goats reproduce quickly and in great numbers. They provide milk for the children with enough excess to sell in the community. The sale of the milk will provide them with money to buy food, school uniforms and school supplies, etc.  Since the goats are free to graze the fields close to the village there is no expense for the child to raise a goat.

As you can see — a goat can change a child’s life!
