Marissa Amber McGill was born in Santa Monica, California to proud parents, Ken and Leslie McGill.  She received her crown of glory on May 27, 2008 in Tallulah, Louisiana.

Marissa attended preschool and Kindergarten through 4th grade in Los Angeles, California. She learned not only her ABC's, but she learned about living life in the fullest sense.  During those formative years she displayed an unusually strong sense of compassion, a heart for God and a love for others, including her younger brother, Gabriel, who was born in 1999, and who she adored.

Beginning in 2004, Marissa attended Presbyterian Christian School in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where she excelled academically and athletically.  In 2004 she won 2nd place in the Forrest County Spelling Bee and then in 2007 Marissa earned State and Grand Recognition in the Duke University Talent Identification Program for her ACT scores that placed her in the top 2 percent of 7th graders nationally.  Also while at PCS, Marissa played soccer, basketball and ran track.  She played on the 2007 Varsity soccer team, playing in the State Tournament game and she played on the 2007 Junior Varsity basketball team which won the District Championship.

Marissa accepted Jesus as her Lord and Savior on October 10, 1999, and was baptized on November 10, 2004 (the day after her 10th birthday) at the River of Life Church in Hattiesburg, MS.  Marissa's faith was evident in her life as she enjoyed attending church, spending time with friends from church & school, serving others and working in the nursery.

Marissa Marissa was a true student of life and lived more in 13 ½ years than many people live in a lifetime.  She exuded a joy that only comes from the Lord whom she loved more than anything and who she wasn't ashamed to profess.  We had a saying that we would often quote before getting out of the car for school -- "Glow in the Dark"!  -- and that she did!    Now we hope to have not only her light, but the light of Jesus shine in the dark places through Marissa's House Orphanage.  Our prayer is that lives might be touched through the love of this precious girl who touched our lives so briefly.
